You're going to homeschool? What!?!? Are you crazy???

“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus."

Matthew 14:29

After much prayer and thought, Tim and I have decided to homeschool. There are many reasons we have made this decision but mainly I just feel like that is God's best for our family. I am not at all saying public or private schools are bad or lesser. I just know this is what God is asking of us.

I am SO excited about it. I have already been homeschooling (that word seems so negative... we have basically been having fun learning) Reece this last year. He is already reading. He is 4. It is amazing what some one-on-one time and the right resources can do.

But, believe me, this is my "getting out of the boat and walking on water" experience. I feel so overwhelmed, so inadequate, so incapable... but at the same time, so peaceful, so equipped by God and SO determined. I have no idea how long I will do it. Maybe just this year ~but I am excited. I am not ready to be away from my kids all day. I also cannot separate Reece and Bubba. That would be so sad. They have never known life apart.

So, I know what you are wondering... What about socialization, what about sports, what about friends, what about private schools, what about your sanity, what about chemistry, what if your kids are dorks?

My answer: I have no idea...
but I couldn't be more sure that this is part of my calling...

I had lunch with some girls who are ahead of me in this and are SUCH blessings. I am so grateful for ya'll. Thank you for all your help and encouragement.

Our waitress took this picture. I think she had her finger over the flash. :(

You can pass down all their advice to me!! A lady at church told me that if you can teach your child to get dressed you can homeschool!!
I hope she is right :)

Great joy to you for your commitment to homeschool. I would tell you a great book to read is by Linda Dobson. She is great at being real with the whole process.Without sounding negative, don't set yourself up for failure. Plan on days that are not sunny or fun.Somedays are just plain hard work. But I see you have been blessed with a group of girls that will be on the road with you. My group of five friends are priceless treasures to me in this endeavour of homeschool life. Have fun.

I think it is great that you are homeschooling. I have homeschooled mine until 1st grade. We are debating on doing 2nd grade with Garrett this year. He is my struggler. As for my kids being dorks, what kids weren't at their age?? I still have my moments (and I was never homeschooled). We will remember you in our prayers. Good Luck!
